<p class="MsoNormal">I am a member of USITT and USITT NE. I joined the NE branch to support it after attending last year’s branch meeting at USITT in Kansas City. I have attended USITT for several years as performing and visual arts are my passion in our architecture
firm. I was inspired listening to your round table discussion of how can you (most of you were academics) get your depts.. to be more visible and more supported on your campuses. Our office has seen an unusual spike in arts projects on campuses and a recognition
by liberal arts administration of the importance of creating a dialogue between the arts disciplines on campus and the other academic disciplines to fulfill the liberal arts mission of creating well rounded graduates that can creatively problem solve no matter
their degree choice. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Long story short- the architecture commission puts forth a number of sessions in which we try to create more overlap between the USITT groups and ourselves. Is there someone in your group that might want to participate in a session I am
sponsoring called “Beyond Entertainment- Arts District Planning” in Charlotte at this year’s convention? This is the draft synopsis:

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red;">There are those sensational arts districts of the world and those simpler venues located on Main Street America. Whether located within a grand urban framework like the Wells Fargo
Cultural Campus in Charlotte, the village crossroads or on a college quadrangle, these arts districts provide opportunities for typically under-represented interests to find strength by working together. How do considerations of today’s technology driven world
of “turned on and plugged in 24/7” impact how we design? How can we help the users/owners plan for financially and programmatically sustainable institutions? Why is now the best time ever to plan for the arts? Why is it important what happens on campus and
does that impact the larger urban venue? Enjoy a lively discussion of the similarities and differences in planning both professionally based arts projects and those within academic settings utilizing case studies on the boards and operational.
