<span class="PrintVerySmall"><p align="center"><strong>Technical Director, Sorenson Center for the Arts</strong> </p><p><strong><u>Reports to:</u></strong> </p><p>Director, Sorenson Center for the Arts </p><p><strong><u>Job Summary:</u></strong> </p><p>Responsible for providing technical stage and backstage support for both amateur and professional events. </p><p><strong><u>Essential Responsibilities:</u></strong> </p><p>• Manage technical aspects of the Sorenson Center’s daily operations,
including event load-ins, set-ups and strikes, and use of the
facility’s sound, lighting, stage, projection, and other technical
equipment and systems. </p><p>• Develop, implement, and monitor a safety program for stage and
backstage areas and operations. Serve as the chief safety officer for
the stage and backstage areas of the Sorenson Center. </p><p>• Assist the Director in developing and instituting policies and procedures for the Sorenson Center’s operations. </p><p>• Advise and work with student organizations, campus departments,
community organizations, commercial promoters, and other users of the
Sorenson Center to define the technical requirements and staffing
necessary to assure the safe and successful staging of events. </p><p>• Review technical riders for artists being presented by the Sorenson
Center, and work with artists’ technical and artistic staffs to see
events successfully mounted. </p><p>• Assist the Director with budget preparation. Monitor technical expenditures and ensure that they remain within budget. </p><p>• Assist the Director in specification and purchase of equipment
upgrades. Develop and manage a program for equipment inventory and
security. Develop and oversee a preventive maintenance program for the
Sorenson Center’s theatre systems and technical equipment. Coordinate
repair and maintenance of equipment and systems as necessary. </p><p>• Regularly interact with facility users in the planning,
coordination, and execution of programs, services, and events. Monitor
user adherence to contract terms for schedule, labor, space, and
equipment usage. Provide the Director and facility renters with
projected technical costs for events. After events, provide the Director
with summaries of actual costs incurred. </p><p>• Enforce Babson College and Sorenson Center policies and procedures, and recommend changes as necessary. </p><p>• Perform and supervise limited set construction, painting, rigging, and other theatre craft activities as needed. </p><p>• Together with the Director and other staff, work to maintain and
improve the integrity, condition, and value of Sorenson Center as a
first-rate performing arts center for the campus and community. </p><p>• Organize, manage, work with, and train students with a wide variety of backgrounds in a hands-on learning environment </p><p>• Assume additional responsibilities as required. </p><p><strong><u>Supervises:</u></strong> </p><p>Student (5-10) </p><p><strong><u>Job Requirements:</u></strong> </p><p><em>Minimum Level of Education Required:</em> <br>Bachelor’s Degree (BFA preferred) </p><p><em>Minimum Level of Experience Required:</em> <br>Two years of professional experience in technical theater or stage management</p><p><em>Working Conditions:</em> <br>Evenings and weekends required; Lift up to 40 pounds </p><p><strong><u>Additional Required Skills and Abilities:</u></strong> </p><p>• A strong understanding of safety issues associated with working in a theatrical setting <br>•
Knowledge and practical hands-on experience working with modern sound
and computerized lighting systems in a professional theatrical setting <br>• A thorough knowledge and understanding of stage rigging and counterweight systems and standard practices for their operation <br>• Demonstrated proficiency in stage lighting design and audio engineering for the performing arts <br>• Excellent oral, interpersonal communication, and problem solving skills <br>•
Demonstrated proficiency in reading, understanding, interpreting and
implementing technical riders and other written documents <br>• Understand and manage a budget <br>• Work effectively and sensitively with diverse constituencies <br>• Computer proficiency </p></span><div>
