The policy as stated in <I>Course Facts </I>is:</SPAN></DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">Be aware that, as a rule, there are no make-up quizzes for unexcused quiz absences. We</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">will give a make-up quiz for excused absences only. There are two situations under which a</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">quiz absence may be excused: <B>(1) If you have a serious illness or personal</B></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; "><B>emergency that prevents your attendance at the quiz. </B>You must notify us before the</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">quiz, and the seriousness of the illness or emergency must be confirmed by Counseling</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">and Support Services. <B>(2) If you have a valid reason to miss a quiz, you may</B></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; "><B>request to miss the quiz, </B><FONT class="Apple-style-span" size="3"><SPAN class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12.5px;"><B>a-priori</B></SPAN></FONT><B>, and the course staff will determine whether the</B></DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; "><B>absence will be excused. </B>You must make your request at least two weeks in advance of</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">the date you need a decision. The decision to grant such a request is at the discretion of the</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">course staff. Also, in your request, you should carefully explain the educational purpose of the trip.
