It is officially the beginning of the Freshman Class Council Election season! There are many opportunities for you to become a leader for your class through the various positions offered within your class council. If you are interested in running for office,
please read the following email in its entirety as it contains important information regarding the process:<br>

<strong>The UA Election Code </strong><br>

<strong>Class Council Positions</strong><br>
The open positions for this term are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Chair, and Social Chair. More information regarding the roles of the positions in more detail can be found within the attached document called, "Class Council Info." <br>

<strong>Schedule of election events </strong><br>
The attached schedule lists the general timeline of the election period as well as specific deadlines that are to be followed. Review the schedule in its entirety to ensure that all deadlines are met.<br>

<strong>Petition Packets</strong><br>
In order to be a viable candidate for this election season, you must submit your petition packet in a single PDF file with a PNG attachment of your headshot by Tuesday, October 4 to <a href="mailto:ua-elect@mit.edu" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-auth="NotApplicable" data-safelink="true" data-linkindex="3" style="font-weight:normal;margin:0px;color:rgb(0, 124, 137) !important;text-decoration:underline">ua-elect@mit.edu</a>.*<br>

Petition packets must include each of the following in this order. If materials are missing, you will not be included on the ballot this election season:

<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0px">Below is an explanation on how each petition packet material should be presented:</p>

<li dir="ltr">
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0px"><u>Cover sheet:</u> One page with your full name, email, phone number, and “Candidate for 2026 Class Council _____” filled in with the position you are running for.</p>
</li><li dir="ltr">
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0px"><u>Proof of registration as an undergraduate</u>: You can obtain this at the Student Services Center (11-120).</p>
</li><li dir="ltr">
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0px"><u>Signed statement of candidacy</u>: See an attached copy of the statement of candidacy. Please read in its entirety and, if you desire to run, include a signed copy. </p>
</li><li dir="ltr">
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0px"><u>Budget</u>: Each campaign can officially use $250.00. Make a copy of the <a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1318b3v8dZPskgcx1-RC3kNghXINqOdtTjc7DWq4pdoU/edit" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-auth="NotApplicable" data-linkindex="4" data-safelink="true" style="font-weight:normal;margin:0px;color:rgb(0, 124, 137) !important;text-decoration:underline">attached
budget document</a> and export as PDF for inclusion in the packet materials document. Keep track of all receipts. Candidates who are found to have spent more than $250.00 will be disqualified from the election.</p>
</li><li dir="ltr">
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0px"><u>*Candidacy platform</u>: A written statement no more than 250 words (double-spaced, 12pt font, Times New Roman). Include a captioned headshot of yourself with name and class year (in square dimensions). Attach copies
of the PNG photos in the email where you submit packet materials so we can post you on our website (pending confirmation of materials). Include any digital materials to supplement your platform (i.e. social media handles and website URLs)</p>
</li><li dir="ltr">
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0px"><u>List of signatures for the petition</u>: Use the attached signature form to collect signatures. Take pictures of completed sheets as backup. Signatures that are not collected on this form will not be counted. Make sure
the name and class year are legible or the signature will be invalid. There are only 20 rows per sheet, so make sure when using a new sheet, you label the page number at the top to keep the signatures in order.</p>

<strong>Signature Threshold</strong><br>
Students running for office require a minimum number of valid signatures to be considered an official candidate. The threshold for 2026 Class Council is 10% of the class population or <strong><u>114 signatures</u></strong><br>

<strong>Additional Note</strong><br>
Signatures are <strong>not </strong>an avenue for campaigning. The official campaign period begins the day that voting begins as stated in the timeline attached. Read the campaigning rules in its entirety to understand what you can and cannot do. Failure to
follow the rules and procedures listed will result in an invalid candidacy.<br>
