You can look at all the things they have planned for the MIT 2016 celebration (a 100th anniversary of our move to Cambridge) on <a href="http://institute-events.mit.edu/information-center/MIT2016" target="_blank">their website</a>.<br><br></i></div><i>The Institute event that I'm remembering right now is the Infinite Buffet, which happened twice - <a href="http://tech.mit.edu/V117/N60/infinite.60n.html" target="_blank">once in 1997</a>, and <a href="http://news.mit.edu/2001/buffet-1031" target="_blank">once in 2001</a>. They didn't have the <a href="http://news.mit.edu/2014/mit-community-celebrates-the-life-of-charles-m-vest-0307" target="_blank">recently-dedicated</a> Charles Vest Student Street (i.e. the ground floor of Stata) to fill with free food - they didn't even have Stata yet! - so they filled the Infinite Corridor instead!<br><br></i></div><div style="font-size:12.8px"><i>A friend who was an undergrad then says that it was at the 1997 Infinite Buffet that he suggested to President Vest that he re-create the office of Chancellor, which <a href="https://libraries.mit.edu/mithistory/institute/offices/office-of-the-mit-chancellor/" target="_blank">until 1998</a> had been an intermittent, ad-hoc, if-the-president-wants-there-to-be-one position.
