I would like to bring to your attention some new faces in the Student Activities Office, and also some people you may be missing…<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'>First off, I’d like to introduce Ms. La-Tarri Canty, our Assistant Director of Student Activities and Director of Multicultural Programs. Before La-Tarri started at MIT in August, she was the Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs and Programs at University of South Florida at St. Petersburg. She received her Bachelors in English from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta and her Masters in Student Affairs Personnel and Diversity from SUNY Binghamton. She is licensed in Ministry and is extremely excited about the opportunity to impact the MIT community in a meaningful way! La-Tarri works with a number of multi-cultural student groups on campus and also organizes programs and initiatives such as MC^2 and the Orientation Diversity Event.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'>Alana Hamlett, our Assistant Director for Student Activities and Events, started at MIT in July. She came to us from the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, where she was Coordinator of Student Development. She received her Bachelors in Politics from Brandeis University and her Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University. Alana advises the Events Committee and Class Councils as well as additional student organizations on campus. In particular she is instrumental in advising the Events Committee on programs such as Fall Festival and Spring Weekend. In her spare time, you can find reading fashion and food blogs!<br></span><br>Finally, last but certainly not least, our Program Coordinator, Katrina Hill came to us in August. She was previously a Risk Management Analyst at the Massachusetts Port Authority, but is excited to be working with students and helping with the many questions and concerns that come through our door daily! She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Regis College with a minor in English & Dance. She is also a member of a dance crew called Unyted Stylz <span style='font-family:Wingdings'>J</span>. Katrina is the first person you see when you walk through the doors of W20-549 and is helpful in answering your questions on anything from RFP’s to Event Registrations to Campus Resources. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Andy Dolan is also an intern with us from Northeastern University, where he is working on his Masters in Higher Education. He is with us for a year working with us on a number of initiatives such as LeaderShape, Fall Festival, Spring Weekend and MIT L.E.A.D.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>As some of you may already know, Kerri Mills left SAO in August to take a position with the MIT Lemelson Group. She was our Assistant Director of Student Activities and Finance, and was a key player on our team. We were sad to lose her! However, our hope is to fill her position before the end of the fall semester. A search committee that involves student representatives as well staff are currently underway in making that happen!<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Abigail Francis, our Assistant Director of Student Activities and Director of LGBT Services is on maternity leave until mid-December.
