Undergrads,

In a recent meeting, we learned that the Chancellor charged the UAAP
with reviewing Orientation and defining a shorter schedule. It is
intended that Orientation 2011 will implement this schedule. The UAAP
has been meeting with the faculty, departments, and offices that play a
role.

At this point, the UA has been invited to facilitate student input. Additionally, students will continue to be able to provide
input on how to organize activities during Orientation
through the SLOPE committee.

A special
meeting of the Senate will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, 1/25/2011, in
W20-400. The purpose of this meeting will be to understand the
changes and to provide a structure for giving feedback. Light
refreshments will be provided. All undergraduates are welcome; in
particular, we encourage student leaders of living groups to attend, as
we anticipate that they will benefit the most from understanding the
changes so that they can appropriately answer questions raised by their
constituents. Dean Julie Norman (UAAP) has kindly agreed to attend and
share some of the work that was done.

Separately, we have prioritized the issue of student engagement in Institute
decision-making and will be working to address it over the coming weeks.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting and hearing your comments.

Best wishes,
Vrajesh Modi, UA President
Sammi Wyman, UA Vice President
