Discussion will be centered around the idea of 'morally guided research' drawing heavily from Pope Francis' recent encyclical, Laudato Si. Beside Fr. Dan we have confirmed our very own Josh Hester, Co-Chair of MIT Sustainability, to discuss his thoughts on the encyclical. The reading for this week can be found at http://www.brookings.edu /research/papers/1996/08/childrenfamilies-akerlof. It discusses the concept of Technology Shock (wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_shock) applied to the social issues of Out-Of-Wedlock births and is a good case study for the unacknowledged 'power' that scientist and engineers have in society. Please invite your friends along, since this discussion will be of interest to all members of the MIT community. For more details please contact Adam Kuang (aqkuang@mit.edu). You have to be over 21 to enter the Thirsty Ear.

=== (3) The Catholic Faith in One Week ===

IAP class Jan 25-29, 2016 1-4 PM in Student Center/PDR 3.
