Friends,

Today there are many places in the world experiencing torment, many people in the midst of tragedy. In the past few days our attention and prayers have turned to Haiti and Afghanistan. This afternoon I received a prayer by the Poor Clare Sisters of Galway. Permit me to share it with you. Haiti and Afghanistan may be many miles away, yet healing begins with the person right next to us.

A Prayer for Afghanistan

For those who are fleeing: sanctuary.
For those who are staying: safety.
For those who are fighting: peace.
For those whose hearts are breaking: comfort.
For those who see no future: hope.

Blessings and peace,

“But now thus says the Lord,
 He who created you, O Jacob,
 He who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.”
Isaiah 43:1
