The Veritas Forum at MIT presents:

*Drawing the Line:*
A Conversation on the Ethics of Gene Editing

As gene editing technologies, such as CRISPR/Cas9, become more advanced and
affordable, their ability to have profoundly positive effects on humankind
seems apparent. Solutions to the ethical considerations, such as equity of
access and societal values related to genetic diversity, are far less
apparent and demand thoughtful consideration. Because further development
of genomic technologies directly depends on the boundaries of their
applications, timely answers to these ethical questions are important.
Accordingly, the Veritas Forum at MIT is pleased to host Stanford
neurobiologist William Hurlbut and MIT genetic biologist Rudolf Jaenisch to
dialogue about these issues. The discussion will be moderated by MIT
professor of engineering Cullen Buie.

Started at Harvard in 1992, Veritas Forums are hosted by coalitions of
Christian fellowships (and secular partners) at over 50 leading schools,
with the aim of engaging students and faculty in discussions of life’s
hardest questions and the relevance of Christian perspectives to these
issues. We welcome the diverse viewpoints of experts who wrestle with the
big questions both intellectually and personally. Past presenters include
Francis Collins, Peter Singer, Steven Pinker, Sir John Polkinghorne, and
Cornel West.
