=== (1) The Narrow Path: Your Vocation and Ours ===
Monday Night Discussion tomorrow will talk about the recent history of the
theology of vocation.
Vatican II marked an important moment in how Catholics talk about vocation.
No longer was it appropriate to think that only those in religious life or
the clergy had vocations; everyone has a vocation, a vocation to holiness
that comes from following Jesus. Married people have a vocation to be
married, suggesting that the time of courtship and engagement ought to be a
time of discerning whether a particular marriage would be God's will. This
broadening of the notion of a "calling," however, had unintended
consequences for how we think about vocations to the priesthood and
religious life, and in some cases married life, such that today vocations
of all sorts are in a crisis.
We’ll be meeting in 3-333 after Mass (8:15 PM).
To receive updates about this and other formational activities, contact
tccwebmaster at mit.edu and ask to be added to our TCC-ED mailing list.
