The World Dance Council (WDC), which is responsible for the World Ballroom and Latin Championships, will be holding their 2007 World Po-Am Championship in Buenos Aires in February 2007. The competition, and associated events, will be held in the Sheraton and Park Tower Hotel. Can anyone is BsAs say whether this event is being publicised and whether there’s any connection with the Tango community. I know that Adrian Veredice and Alejandra Hobart will be performing, as will some of the top professional Latin couples from around the world. On previous visits to BsAs, it seemed that Ballroom and Latin dance styles were virtually unknown to the tango community. I dance demonstration Waltz and Foxtrot in a couple of private milongas and even gave a Rumba performance in Club Sin Rumbo. Everybody always loved it. Of course, I never dared show them what Ballroom Tango looks like :-). I haven’t been back for 3-years but has Ballroom and Latin dancing taken hold in BsAs? The WDC is a very powerful and wealthy organisation, which efficiently promotes Ballroom and Latin dancing around the world, including providing scholarships to aspiring and talented dancers. The holding of such a major event in BsAs indicates that they intend to make inroads in Argentina. Keith
