TangoZen: Embrace, Music, and Walk, by Chan Park...

In much of the popular imagination, tango is seen as a dance
involving complex steps
performed by dancers whose intensity swirls around them as they enact
visions of
dark passion. However, Portenos, referring to the residents in Buenos Aires,
explain that tango provides them with a safe haven where they can transform to
be completely present, letting go of ego, enjoying calmness in body and mind,
expressing their passion, sharing their emotions with trustful dance partners
in a respectful manner, and accumulating satisfying moments, while
dancing on a regular basis.

Porteno milongueros recommend us to practice three things :
have good embrace, listen to music, and walk,
just like the way they have learned to dance from the beginning of
their tango life.

The goal of the TangoZen Workshop is to help the participants learn
to dance tango
with understanding of the importance of "embrace, music, and walk" in
social tango
scenes. The goal will be achieved by practicing a series of intuitive
and simple
exercises which are adapted from martial arts such as Tai Chi and Chi Kung,
meditation techniques such as zazen and yoga, and sports. By practicing these
exercises, each participant will be able to not only learn to have
confidence in
fundamental movements of the tango dance but also to increase sensitivity to
balance, connection, centering, and groundedness, and weight
shifting, all of which
are known as critical elements for dancing tango, eventually enjoying
the dance to a
maximum pleasure.

The workshop participants will be able
to have confidence in tango movements;
to experience tango as "an art of embrace" for enjoying connection
with partners,
music, and the surroundings;
to enjoy dancing tango with emphasis on sharing pleasure with partner;
to understand difference between social tango versus stage tango;
to understand the unique tango culture in Buenos Aires, such as tango
etiquettes in
milongas.

Chan Park has offered classes and workshops on tango in
more than 22 countries (68 cities).
He now lives in Buenos Aires, where he is well
recognized as a respected instructor and dancer in all of the best milongas.

Chan Park's book, "Tango Zen: Walking Dance Meditation" was published in 2005,
and since then, re-published over and over again, now in 4 languages
