Autobiography of Tonya Smith and Alberto Perone:
Tonya Smith, born an American, currently divides her year between the USA
and Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a choreographer, teacher and dancer of
Argentine Tango. Her most well known maestros are Juan Carlos Copas, Carlos
Gavito, Osvaldo Zotto and Gustavo Naviera.
Tonya was a successful competitive ballroom dancer and held the Regional
Title for American Tango before discovering and falling in love with
Argentine Tango.
Her enthusiasm brought Tango to Tulsa, Oklahoma in the mid-nineties.
Tonya's
energy, as well as her organizational skills, more than doubled the
membership of The Tango Society of Minnesota (TSoM) during the three years
she was president.
Master milonguero, Alberto Perone of Buenos Aires, Argentina, studied with
Antonio Todaro exclusively. (Antonio Todaro taught Miguel Zotto, who taught
his brother, Osvaldo Zotto.)
Alberto has attended Club Gricel's Monday night Milonga in Buenos Aires for
15 years and is known for his playful walk. He has been given the nickname
"El Tiburón," translated as "The Shark."
Together, Alberto and Tonya teach Tango Tradicional, Tango Canjengue, Vals
Crusado, Milonga Tradicional and Milonga Traspie.
With more than 25 years of experience dancing and teaching Argentine Tango,
Tonya and Alberto offer technique classes to both men and women and teach
all levels from beginners to advanced dancers.
They have performed at exclusive private parties as well as international
exhibitions.
Sharing the intimacy, romance and the love of Argentine Tango is their
passion, and for every student their goal is that "you enter walking and
exit dancing."
