Gustavo Benzecry & Maria Olivera workshops in Chicago – Early Bird ends 9/30

Gustavo Benzecry and Maria Olivera will be in back Chicago after a successful participation in the 2009 Chicago Mini Tango Festival. They will be in Chicago from October 29-November 5 and will do a weekend of workshops on October 31 and November 1. The early bird 10% discount for registrations and payments will end on September 30, 2009. We have added a Halloween Milonga with performances by Gustavo and Maria on the evening of October 31st. The Milonga is included in the pricing for individuals who purchase the entire package.

During 2008 and 2009 they've toured more than 20 cities including New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston, Chicago (where they participated in the last Chicago Mini Tango Fest with great success - you can click on this link to watch their performance during the festival: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ9Y7-eoEpc) and Portland, where they got the highest records for their instruction in the October Festival. You can also see them in a recent video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjiktLyXBzM

Gustavo has written several books; the last one: Embracing Tango - Techniques and metaphors between Tango and life (Abrazosbooks, 2006 - prologue by María Nieves and epilogue by Aurora Lúbiz). This last one, translated by María Olivera, is the first written approximation to the original Tango Salón (also known as "close embrace") style, that has been danced in Buenos Aires for over a hundred years. It includes the explanation of 6 basic sequences as well as articles related to the embrace, the improvisation, the dance floor and the surrender. It is finally the first written guide to the so-called "milonga codes", the rules of behavior and interaction of people in the context of the "milonga". Copies of this last book are going to be available for purchasing during the workshops.
