Dear tango aficcionados:

It is a pleasure to announce that we will be offering tango workshops by David Sasha Tonn, of New York City, and his partner Tatiana Smirnova, on Saturday September 6, 2008, at Springstep. Here is some information on David:

David Sasha Tonn 
David has studied, taught and performed tango for almost ten years. He has worked with some of the best followers in the world including: Mariana Dragone, Mariana Galassi, Karina Romero, former Alvin Ailey dancer Paola Gallarato and Nina Tatarowicz. Some of his major tango influences and friends include Chicho Frumboli, Sebastian Arce, Ezequiel Farfaro and Pablo Villaraza. He began his traditional tango education with the Pugliese family and believes in the seemless integration of traditional and nuevo technique coupled with imagination and musicality.  Tatiana Smirnova has studied dance and gymnastics since she was a child and has been working with David for the past year.

The workshops will happen at Springstep on Saturday afternoon. Here is the schedule:


2pm to 3:30pm - Seemless integration of traditional tango with nuevo technique - Part 1 (adv.beg. level)

3:45pm to 5:15pm - Seemless integration of traditional tango with nuevo technique - Part 2 (int.adv. level)


The idea is to build the technique according to individual levels. For that reason, it is highly recommended that you take both workshops.

Topics will include the giro, sacadas, boleos, ganchos, piernazos, soltaldas, sostenidas and rebotes, and perhaps lifts and catches. We will work progressively and incorporate musicality into all of these topics.


David Sasha and Tatiana will give demonstrations at Tango Paradiso on September 6, with Live Music by Bernardo Monk and Octavio Brunetti. Not to be missed!
