The Men of Tango
A multimedia lecture presentation by Anton Gazenbeek
Assisted by Sergio Segura
Fascinating and extremely rare films from the 1930s
until 2000s, some
of them never seen outside of Argentina, about the
evolution of the
Argentine Tango Dance.
Anton Gazenbeek will explore and analyze the history
of some of the
greatest male tango dancers, who made an impact on
Tango:
El Cachafaz, Virulazo, Juan Carlos Copes, Antonio
Todaro, Pepito
Avellaneda, Fino Ribera, Rodolfo Cieri, Miguel Angel
Zotto, Carlos Gavito, Gustavo Naveira, Fabian Salas,
among others

Followed by a question and answer session.

About the lecturer:
Anton's passion for traditional tango lead him to
start collecting all
types of photographic and video material related to
tango. After nine
years, he has put together the largest and most
important tango video
collection in the world (now with well over 1,500
videos from all time
periods). He has written articles for many magazines
including those of
the Asociacion de Maestros, Bailarines y Coreografos
de Tango
Argentino, Explore Dance in the USA , and TangoDanza
in Germany . He also has
been lecturing at the Translation Dance International
Researcher’s
Conference in Hamburg, Germany . Anton has been
invited to give lectures
together with major tango personalities such as Gloria
and Eduardo
Arquimbau, Maria Nieves, and the great Juan Carlos
Copes, who recently hired
Anton to compile a book about Copes’ career. He has
also been giving
video presentations at NYC Summer Tango & Film
Festival 2007, Boston Tango
Festival and World Tango Festival as well as at NYU
and Carnegie
Mellon.  He is the director of the School of
Traditional Argentine Tango in
New York City , a dance school dedicated to the
diffusion of the pure
forms of tango dance.
