The rain could not impede the crowded tango class that evening in
Buenos Aires.

You could feel the excitement of the dancers as they changed their
shoes.

The first beat of La Cumparsita by D’arienzo started the class at
seven thirty.

Watching Maxi explaining the figures with a big smile was Maria,
drinking a coffee.

The relaxed atmosphere enticed Maria to join the class when a white-
haired man invited her to dance.

That day Maxi and Maria just glanced each other, but the magic of
Buenos Aires would later surprise them.

On a Friday night, Maria joined a friend at a Milonga. When ‘ Vida
Mia’ by Osvaldo Fresedo started to play she felt a hand on her back
and a friendly voice saying, "Shall we dance?"

Those three minutes marked the beginning of a long story, the way
they met and have been together ever since.

Putting the accent on elegance, Maxi & Maria focus on a traditional
tango reminiscent of it’s roots, keeping that essence alive.

Through their movement, the deep connection of their looks, the
sensuality of their embrace the audience sees not just two people but
a couple bringing alive the rhythm of Argentinian Tango.

Being the son of one of the great Argentine Tango Legends, Carlos
Copello, Maxi & Maria were taught and nurtured by many of the great
Maestros of their dance. They learned different styles as they
studied with (among others) Carlos Copello, Oscar Martinez Pey,
Fabian Peralta, Osvaldo Zotto & Lorena Hermosida, Juan Corbalan and
Carlos & Rosa Perez.

Maxi & Maria are well-known in Argentina through their work not only
as choreographers, artistic directors and stars on some of the best
stages and leading hotels of Buenos Aires, but also through
television, the print media and their 2006 Choreography DVD.

As artistic directors of one of the largest and most complete
international academies of dance in Latin America, Maxi & Maria
consider the teaching aspect of their profession of utmost
importance. With this in mind, they have designed a system making
the most of the power and capacity of each student.
