This SUNDAY NIGHT at ESMERALDA'S at Session 73
And last night of the NYC Tango Festival,

COME TO A SEE A VERY SPECIAL 8:00 PM SHOWING
of the DOCUMENTARY FILM, (well, it is more than a documentary)
not publicly show here before (running time-1 hr. 6 min. with good
subtitles)-----

"TANGO: OUR DANCE" ("TANGO: BAYLE NUESTRO")--

in the beautiful, air conditioned back party room with its LARGE SCREEN and
CEILING PROJECTOR and CUSHIONED SEATING (during the continuous milonga from
7 to 12 AM and interspersed fashions*)

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL, EVOCATIVE LOOK AT THE DANCE OF HIS PEOPLE BY ARGENTINE
FILMMAKER, JORGE ZANADA, WHO ALSO WAS THE SCREEN WRITER.

An excellent guessing-game would be to see how many of the characters you
can name who are in this film.

Blurbs about the film:

"Director Jorge Zanada conducted years of research in order to present this
in-depth look at the sensuality and stylized rituals of the tango. TANGO:
OUR DANCE explores the role of the dance in the national landscape of
Argentina, its native country, along with the machismo and passion that fuel
the dance. Actor and tango enthusiast Robert Duvall makes a special
appearance to explain what the tango means to him."

and

"... the tango has long served as a focal point for the national identity of
Argentines. This documentary explores the history of the dance and its music
and shows its contemporary influence. One highlight is the way in which
amateur dancers are shown making the forms and moods of the dance their
own."

The film was shot during a two-year period, from 1985-87.
