<p class="MsoNormal">Next week, Housing & Residential Services (HRS) will be conducting the required fall semester fire drill in all MIT residences. These drills are conducted to test the system for accuracy, and for residents to familiarize themselves with
<a href="http://studentlife.mit.edu/covid19policies">the building evacuation procedure</a>.

<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:16.0pt;background:yellow;mso-highlight:yellow">The fire drill for Tang Hall is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 10/20 6pm.</span><span style="font-size:16.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Each drill will take approximately 30 minutes from start to finish for each building and the evacuation procedure lasts an average of six minutes. If there is inclement weather, the fire drill will be rescheduled to an alternative date
and information about rescheduling will be shared with you. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Please remember that whenever the alarm sounds, <b><u>ALL</u> residents are required to exit the building</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>

COVID-19 student policy page</a>, please familiarize yourself with the following procedure when evacuating the building:<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Fire Evacuation Procedure (adapted for COVID-19 pandemic)</b><o:p></o:p></p>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Select the nearest exit<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Please wear your face covering (everyone)<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Do not take the elevator<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Activate the manual fire alarm if not already sounding<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Travel along the right-hand side of corridors and stairwells<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">If you were unable to grab a mask, turn away from others passing to limit exposure.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">If possible, direct yourself to the designated assembly locations* for your building (indoor or outdoor), and away from fire lanes. If the space is too crowded, please move away and maintain at least 6 feet
from other residents.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">As others begin to gather, please observe six feet (two meters) physical distancing.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Do not stand in front of the building entrance. Firefighters require easy access to the building.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">If there is inclement weather, take shelter in nearby buildings wherever possible and maintain proper distance.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3">Once the Cambridge Fire Department or Housing staff gives the ‘all clear,’ you may return to your room, while continuing to keep six feet away from other residents.<o:p></o:p></li></ol>

<p class="MsoNormal">As important as these measures are to prevent the spread of the virus, keep in mind the need to stay safe from fire, and how to react while following the COVID-19 protocols. <o:p></o:p></p>
