Westgate and Tang Hall Residential Computing Consultants: <br>
<br>
MIT IS&T is looking for self-motivated individuals to support the MIT
Network in your residence hall. Residential Computing Consultants (RCCs)
work among a team of peers to help students connect to the MIT network, answer
questions pertaining to computing in the MIT dorms and assist with printing to
the dorm printers. RCCs are expected to work closely with other
consultants to ensure quick and professional communication and problem
resolution to the MIT residential community. We train all new consultant,
but basic knowledge of Windows XP, Vista, 7 and OS X are helpful. Some
knowledge of IP networking concepts is a plus. RCCs are expected to make
frequent site visits to residents within their own dorm and residents in nearby
dorms.<br>
Time commitments for RCCs can vary between 3 and 10 hours per week depending on
the case load and additional projects.<br>

Residential Computing queue manager:<br>
<br>
MIT IS&T is looking for a detail oriented individual to help ensure trouble
tickets are met with quick and appropriate resolution. Some of the tasks
the queue manager will be responsible for include:<br>
- Reviewing all open cases on a daily basis to determine if further
action is needed<br>
- Notifying Residential Computing Consultants of the next appropriate
action for open or stalled cases<br>
- Helping RCCs find other consultants to help with a case when coverage
or assistance is needed<br>
- Notifying the Residential Computing Supervisor of cases that are in
need of his/her attention or when there are trends in the problems being
reported<br>
<br>
This is a new position and may evolve over time. Current estimates for
time commitments is approximately thirty minutes to one hour per day.<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
Help Desk student consultant:<br>
<br>
Student consultants provide computing assistance to faculty, students and staff
using Macintosh and Windows computers. They record, troubleshoot and resolve
customer problems via phone, email, and the web and in person.<br>
Typical problems include difficulties connecting to the MIT network, operating
system damage, virus infections or printing failures. <br>
Candidates should be comfortable using Macintosh or Windows computers, but we
will also provide extensive training.<br>
Consultants work 6 - 8 hours a week during the academic year and/or 15 - 40
hours a week during the summer, between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through
Friday. There are no evening or weekend work hours. An initial commitment of
two semesters is expected.<br>

Athena Consultant:<br>
<br>
Athena Consulting provides support for the campuswide Athena computing
environment. We assist all users with the public workstations around campus,
and provide some support for private Athena workstations. We support a variety
of topics ranging from basic UNIX commands, web browsing and certificates to
LaTeX, Matlab, and other academic software packages.<br>
Athena consulting is specifically hiring students interested in working during
the summer.<br>
