CRIME ALERT<br><br>
Burglary in Dormitories<br>
ISSUED: October 5, 2004<br><br>
On Sunday, October 3, 2004 between 12:29 and 12:40 in the afternoon,
a<br>
suspicious person entered an unlocked room in Baker and stole a
laptop<br>
computer and camera. As the thief was stealing these items, the
room<br>
occupant entered the room and pursued the thief out of the building until
the items were recovered.<br><br>
In a similar situation a couple of years ago, the victim attempted
to<br>
obtain his stolen items from the thief when the suspect pulled a knife on
the victim. Therefore, the Police at MIT are asking you to please keep
your room doors locked at all times and to report suspicious persons -
immediately! Call the MIT Police by dialing 100 from a campus phone or
617-253-1212.<br><br>

In this most recent incident at Baker,the victim describes the suspect as
follows: male, white, light brown or blue eyes, pimpled face,tattoo on
the back of his neck, wearing a bright orange tee shirt, black baseball
hat, dark colored shorts. This same suspect had been seen riding a red
bicycle just prior to this theft.<br><br>
Also on Sunday, a McCormick Hall resident reported that her wallet was
stolen from her room, which was left unlocked, sometime between 2:00 AM
and noontime.<br><br>
The only pattern to any of these incidents is that the thief or
thieves<br>
are gaining access to living groups by either "tailgating",
entering<br>
behind a person, or by doors being propped open. Once inside<br>
the thieves walk around on upper floors unchallenged and enter
unlocked<br>
and unattended rooms.</blockquote><br>
