This lecture brings together Tudor art, geography, history and archaeology to better understand a few desperate minutes of a naval action which occurred almost 500 years ago. In 1966 Dr. Harold E. Edgerton of MIT, provided the first positive target evidence for a shipwreck at the location where Alexander McKee suspected the Mary Rose had been lost. The Mary Rose herself was archaeologically excavated and recovered from the seabed in 1982 and is now being conserved in Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.</p><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 16.8px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><br></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 16.8px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><br></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 16.8px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><b><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial" size="4">Wednesday, November 16, 2011</font></b></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 16.8px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><b><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial" size="4">7:00 pm </font></b></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 16.8px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><b><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial" size="4">Building 32 Room 155</font></b></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 16.8px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><b><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial" size="4"> Stata Center</font></b></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 12px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><br></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 12px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; "><br></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 12px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; ">Sponsored by the MIT History Faculty and the SHASS Dean's Office. </div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; text-align: center; line-height: 12px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; ">For more information or to be put on the mailing list contact <a href="mailto:mcollett@mit.edu">mcollett@mit.edu</a>.</div><br></body></html>
