This talk examines the sources of social resistance to agricultural
biotechnology in African countries. It builds on the findings of
"Freedom to Innovate: Biotechnology and Africa's Development"
prepared for the African High-Level Panel on Modern Biotechnology of the
African Union. <br><br>
Calestous Juma is Professor of the Practice of International Development
and Director of the Science, Technology, and Globalization Project at
Harvard Kennedy School. <br><br>
This lecture is part of the STS 2009 Spring Colloquia on "Science
and Technology in Africa, Asia, and Beyond."<br><br>
