Dear Colleagues:

<x-tab> </x-tab>As you can
imagine, the tsunami disaster of last December had a devastating impact
on schools and Universities in South Asia, and especially in Sri Lanka. A
colleague of mine at Duke, Sucheta Mazumdar, has organized a book drive
to help college and school libraries in Sri Lanka rebuild their
collections. She was there when the tsunami hit, though fortunately out
of danger. The schools have received funds to reconstruct their
buildings, but they are not getting aid to buy books. They will be
very grateful for any donations you can provide of scholarly books or
journals. Back issues of journals are quite expensive to buy for them, so
here is your chance to unload your shelves and help out students and
faculty there.

<x-tab> </x-tab>You can
send boxes through the end of this month to :

Duke is aiming to ship a container of over 10,000 books in
July.

It doesn't cost much to send boxes [up to 70 lbs] at book rate from the
Kendall square Post office, and you can take a tax deduction too. I have
shipping labels, but you'll have to provide your own boxes.

Thanks for your help,
