______________________________________________
Biography

Jonathan Morgenstein recently returned in March
after seven months as a Civil Affairs Officer in Ar
Ramadi, Iraq. In Ramadi, Jonathan’s primary
responsibility was to build relationships with key
figures and regular civilians in local communities.
While his primary objective was to facilitate
stabilization of the city and the establishment of
viable governing and security structures, he regularly
supported Cordon and Search operations, conducted to
find insurgents and weapons. His role in these
missions was to mitigate the negative impact of these
military actions on the local civilian population.
Jonathan was key in bringing NGOs to the Ramadi region
for the first time in over a year.

Prior to Iraq, Jonathan served as the primary
intelligence analyst at Marine Forces Europe for the
next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General
Peter Pace, and subsequently worked as an analyst on
the Joint Chiefs’ Iraqi Working Group staff at the
Pentagon. He holds a BA in Government from Cornell
University, an MA in Teaching from the University of
New Hampshire, and an MA in International Policy
Studies from Stanford University. Presently, Jonathan
is the Virginia Director of Generation Engage, a
non-profit dedicated to involving non-college educated
18-24 year olds in the political process.
