Object Lessons: The Greatest Tools on Earth-MIT Slide Rule
Collection
Movie directors seeking to depict engineers from a certain era make sure
they have plenty of slide rules as props. Your mind's eye sees short
sleeve white shirt, pocket protector, hands deftly manipulating
slide rule in search of answer to some mathematical equation. For a
century or so, it was magical tool that helped engineers design
everything from skyscrapers to space shuttles.

Whether you knew how to use a slide rule or just wish you did, Curator of
Science and Technology Deborah Douglas introduces the MIT Museum's
amazing collection, including the newly acquired Keuffel & Esser
Company Slide Rule Collection.
* Part of ongoing series of gallery talks focusing on stories behind
items drawn from Museum collections.
