Subject: Tsunami Disaster Relief Fundraising Drive at MIT<br>

As we begin our new year, we share a sense of shock from the terrible
effects of the tsunami that closed out the last year so drastically for
so many people--150,000 people missing or dead, villages in 11 countries
devastated.<br><br>
The MIT Public Service Center (PSC) is coordinating a fundraising drive
to enable all members of the MIT community to do what they can to assist
with the disaster relief effort.<br><br>
We're trying to raise funds for three causes:
<ul>
<li>Public Service Fellowships that will enable MIT students to help
affected communities with their rebuilding efforts
<li>Sewalanka Foundation--MIT funds will be used to rebuild a community
in Sri Lanka that we've worked with before
<li>UNICEF, which is focusing on children in the affected areas
</ul><br>
<b>Here's how you can help</b>:<br><br>
<b>Donate funds</b> by sending contributions to the PSC in
4-104. Checks should be made out to the organization you
would like to support--MIT (for the Public Service Fellowships),
Sewalanka Foundation, or UNICEF.<br><br>
You can also buy tickets to a student-sponsored fundraising dinner (Jan
20, 7 pm, $15) that will assist people in India, or donate in Lobby 10
and elsewhere on campus to a variety of causes.<br><br>
<b>Donate time</b> by signing up to help with the Lobby 10 booth or by
running a collection within your office or department.<br><br>
