As the curator of the exhibition, Prof. Billington will reflect on the
Swiss structural engineering <br>
tradition, which links aesthetics with engineering and has produced some
of the most acclaimed <br>
bridges of the 20th century. He will focus on the educational
philosophy of the influential Federal <br>
Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, which has trained such notable
engineers/designers as <br>
Otham Ammann, Christian Menn (Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge), and
Santiago Calatrava.<br><br>
Note: The five-part lecture series features ETH professors and
ETH-trained engineers.<br><br>

20th century's most innovative <br>
structural designers, a group of Swiss engineers whose many acclaimed
works include Boston's <br>
new Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge and New York's George Washington
and Verrazano Narrows <br>
bridges. Through drawings, photographs, archival material, paintings,
models, and an interactive stereoscopic <br>
photography display, the exhibition explores the critical role of
aesthetics in structural design<br><br>
