Safety Management system, the Chemistry Department and the Environmental
Programs Office have co-funded a project designed to obtain data on the amount
and kind of toxic substances being purchased, to determine how these chemicals
are being used in research and teaching laboratories, and to identify possible
alternatives for these purposes which are less toxic and entail less of a regulatory
burden. The goal is to design a purchasing system that will encourage users to
select less toxic and less polluting alternatives.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
