of a fork - you just need to set up the fork completion conditions appropriately
to allow for this scenario. Use a condition to end the fork rather than
just a simple number of paths completed. Just use a
wait-for-event (event receiver) step in one path - set a flag in the container
when it's received and you are ready to proceed, and test this in the fork

on 2 parallel branches, and setting the necessary branch value to 1
isn't quite right because I wouldn't want the processing to continue if the user
completed the notification but the wait step criteria hadn't been met.
