Add an icon to your task description

Hi all
 
I'm trying to add an icon to a task description. When you go to the task
description you can follow the menu path insert/characters/ sap icons.  You
are given a complete list from which you can choose an icon.
This inserts a number, but when you run the task, the icon does not appear.
 
Has anyone tried this out before, do you know if you have to do something
else add an icon?  I'm in 4.6c.
