The gaps are caused by buffering of workitem ID number range I think.
You will get a gap every time your system is brought down, or in case =
you
have multiple application servers (each server will use each own =
buffered
numbers for workitem IDs).
It should not cause you any problems, but if you are annoyed by that =
you
can turn the buffering off in number range maintenance for wokritem ID
number range object. However this will slow performance down a little =
bit,
because every time a new workitem is created your system will have to =
make
a call to the database to get next workitem ID number instead of =
getting it
from the buffer.

VIncze,
Workitems C come from IDOCs. That's where the linking is stored as far =
as I
remember. In 4.5 SAP moved it to separate tables like IDOCREL and =
others.

Subject: Gaps in work item id
Hello,
Today morning I have got a hotline call that the workflow (work item) =
id
increased by a relatively big value.
I looked after - SAP 4.0B SWI1 transaction - and I displayed the last
interval
(I checked it in the SWWWIHEAD table, the situation was just the same)
<<wfseq2.doc>>
I can not answer the following questions:
* Who generate at midnight this C type work items {red
rectangle}
(work item represents a container linkage)?
* I have no idea what is the roll of this work item?!
* The work item id contains gaps, why {yellow rectangle}?
