We are pleased to present our fourth seminar of the Fall 2005 semester:

Speaker: Charles Marcus
          Department of Physics
          Harvard University

Time: 4:00pm
Date: Monday, October 17, 2005
Location: CUA conference room, 26-214

Title: Making Spin Qubits

Abstract:

This talk will describe recent experiments aimed at using the spin of
electrons as a holder of a bit of information, for possible use in
quantum computing schemes. The progress toward a viable application
is modest, but the physics issues raised by these initial steps are
very interesting. Along the way, surprises that are of considerable
fundamental interest have arisen that may have little to do with
quantum information processing but are nonetheless worthwhile
 problems in solid state physics.
