<p class="MsoNormal"><i>Raman spectroscopy has been widely used in almost every discipline of science because it offers vibrational or rotational information of materials. However, its application is limited by the low efficiency compared to fluorescence or
absorption spectroscopy. The research goal of our group is to improve intrinsic scattering or instrumental collection efficiency using chemical and optical methods.<br>

</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i>First, we have developed hyperspectral Deep Raman method, which provides improved Raman collection efficiency from concealed subsurface components. Our wide-depth spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (W-SORS) has been used to identify
chemicals in a translucent packaging. By combining the W-SORS and bi-spectral subtraction, we can spectrally resolve the Raman signal of toxic chemicals from the background signal of surrounding materials. Furthermore, we applied our method to the thickness
measurements of pharmaceutical coating of tablet. </i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><i>Second, we attempted to increase the Raman efficiency using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and to quantify the SERS signal by fast scanning method. The flexible SERS substrates are coupled with spiral scanning instruments
to reduce the measurement errors during the spectral acquisition.<br>

<p class="MsoNormal"><i>Finally, we coupled deep Raman method with machine learning algorithm to identify the chemical ID. To increase the machine learning accuracy requires as much spectrum as possible observed under different conditions and W-SORS has advantages
that it could provide hundreds of data set with varying offset in one observation. Tens of chemicals are inspected with W-SORS method and their spectra are analyzed using machine learning algorithm.
