STRATEGIC ADVISOR, MIT KERBEROS CONSORTIUM. The MIT Kerberos
Consortium is seeking a senior IT leader to serve as a strategic
advisor to the executive director and technical director on the
positioning and branding of Kerberos Consortium to executives in
industry and to the Kerberos Consortium's community-building
programs. The ideal candidate is an experienced programmer, familiar
with the internals of large security software, familiar with
deploying security solutions in production environments and prepared
to become familiar with the internals of Kerberos software and
Kerberos deployment.
The Strategic Advisor will act as a liaison with key external
stakeholders to increase awareness of, and engagement in, the
Kerberos Consortium. The Strategic Advisor shall work with the
Executive Director on preparing information for distribution to broad
audiences, and speak at both internal and external conferences,
meetings and symposia, highlighting the virtues and benefits of
adopting a single system and a set of standards that will meet
electronic authentication and authorization requirements. Will report
to the executive director. Will also assist the technical director in
managing the Kerberos Consortium development staff and lead Kerberos
Consortium staff to create a customer-centric culture.
Responsibilities include; build and maintain a solid relationship
between the Kerberos Consortium and its sponsors, collaborating with
experts from academia, industry, and government on development
initiatives; assisting the directors in fund-raising and consortium
member recruitment; and working effectively with other open source
organizations, foundations, and other external organizations. The
Strategic Advisor will be responsible for preparing best practices
and white papers, ensuring that all technical materials prepared by
the Kerberos Consortium are accurate and consistent with the
publication standards established for the Consortium.
REQUIREMENTS: Must be a seasoned technologist who is ready to run and
advance a major information technology initiative with worldwide
reach. At least 10 years experience in systems design, with strong
experience in systems architecture development, systems requirements,
and management. Broad knowledge of the internals of large security
software. Ability to manage people and schedules, resolve differences
and to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously, especially
short term tasking and inquiries. Should be able to meet the
simultaneous demands of industry, academia, and a global community of
users. Ability to define, model, and justify system architectures as
enablers for program success. Exceptional communication ability,
particularly through media such as bogs and wikis. Diplomacy, tact
and ability to present compelling arguments. Requires a readiness to
spend considerable time traveling and meeting with the sponsors or
potential sponsors. Ability to represent MIT on the world stage
required, as is ability to steward one of MIT's major outreach
initiatives.
