I'm very pleased to announce that Microsoft has just officially
joined the MIT Kerberos Consortium. Slava Kavsan, their Director of
Development for Windows Core Security will take a seat on our
Executive Board, joining Paul Armstrong from Google, Wyllys Ingersoll
from Sun, and Wilson D'Souza from MIT. Needless to say, they
represent a vast number of users of Kerberos, so their joining the
Consortium is significant. It is an important step forward towards
our common goal of developing a universal authentication platform for
the world's computer networks.

We officially launched the Kerberos Consortium in late September 2007
with the support of Apple, Centrify, Google, Sun, Stanford
University, TeamF1 and the University of Michigan. Since then we
have also been very pleased to welcome Carnegie Mellon University,
Cornell University, Duke University, Iowa State University, Michigan
State University, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration,
Pennsylvania State University and The United States Department of
Defense as additional Founding Sponsors of the Kerberos Consortium.
We are grateful for the support from these organizations.

We also held the first meeting of our Executive Advisory Board in
December (see http://www.kerberos.org/events/Board-12-11-07/ for
slides and minutes). Given the preponderance of Consortium sponsors
on the west coast, we have decided to hold at least one board meeting
per year there. Therefore, the next meeting of the Executive
Advisory board will be held on April 7, 2008 at Google in Mountain
View, California.

One of our sponsors has proposed founding a "West Coast Friends of
Kerberos" group, that might meet informally to exchange ideas. I'm
pleased to kick off this idea by hosting the first (of what I hope
will be many), "West Coast Friends of Kerberos" dinner, at 7 pm,
April 7th at "Cascal", 400 Castro St., Mountain View, California.
Note that this is the day before the RSA Conference in San Francisco,
so even if you do not live on the west coast, you might find you'll
be in the area. Please let me know if you are able to join us, so I
can get an accurate count for dinner.

Kind regards, and thanks again for your support.
