The Baha'i Association is organizing an event with Dr. Akhavan, a Professor 
of Law at McGill University.  At 12:00 we plan to eat at a restaurant close 
to Central Square, and, at 1:00, Dr. Akhavan will lead a discussion titled, 
"Global Justice: Reflections of a UN War Crimes Prosecutor" in Sidney Pacific

Payam Akhavan was the first war crimes prosecutor at the UN Tribunal at the 
Hague and was involved in the indictment of Slobodan Milosevic for crimes 
against humanity during the Kosovo war.  He has also worked on human rights 
issues in Rwanda, Guatemala, Cambodia, East Timor, Peru, and 
Eritrea-Ethiopia, and is counsel to Uganda in the first case before the 
International Criminal Court.  Dr. Akhavan is also President & Co-Founder 
of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre in New Haven and Board Member 
of the Canadian Human Rights Foundation.

He is presently Professor of Law at McGill University, and was previously 
Visiting Professor at Yale Law School, the University of Toronto, and 
Leiden University in the Netherlands. He received a Doctor of International 
Law from Harvard Law School and has published extensively on human rights.

In recognition of his contributions to human rights, he was selected by the 
World Economic Forum in 2005 as a Young Global Leader.
