From jaowen at mit.edu Thu Sep 14 20:35:57 2017 From: jaowen at mit.edu (Jeremy Owen) Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2017 20:35:57 -0400 Subject: [Mitai-announce] Volunteer as a tutor / TA in a prison classroom Message-ID: Please read Steffen Seitz's important message below about the Petey Greene Program---an opportunity to volunteer as a tutor or TA in a prison classroom. Best, Jeremy *** Dear MIT Amnesty International, Consider volunteering for the Petey Greene Program! We recruit and train college students (undergrads and grads) to serve as tutors and TAs in prison classrooms. We offer a training, handle clearances with the prison, and coordinate and reimburse all travel. We're formally expanding to MIT this year, so we're looking for new MIT volunteers! Amnesty International has repeatedly criticized the American justice system and called for an end to mass incarceration (see here ). Volunteering with the Petey Greene Program would give MIT students a window into the American justice system and allow them to directly give back to their community. If you're interested, please feel free to reach out to me or apply online here . I attached a one-pager here that also has more info. Once you apply we can send you a scheduling form to see when might work best for you. We're really excited about expanding to MIT, and we're hoping for a large cohort of dedicated tutors and TAs!
