Dear Activists,

Thanks so much for standing up for humanity and human rights. Today, we have
a list of actions lined up for you! The following is a list of urgent action
cases. Each case has a description and a link to the petition webpage. Let's
make a difference by signing petitions!

1. *NORTH KOREA:* Help Release Two Imprisoned U.S. Journalists in North
Korea!

North Korean authorities have sentenced two U.S. journalists, Laura Ling and
Euna Lee, to 12 years imprisonment with hard labor. The two journalists,
both of whom work for California-based Current TV media venture in San
Francisco, were arrested by North Korean officials on March 17 near the
Tumen River, which separates North Korea and China. The two were
investigating human rights abuses of North Korean women. Urge China, which
is the major provider of energy and food to North Korea, and which has
considerable leverage on the regime in Pyongyang, to call for the release of
the two journalists.
2. *IRAN*: Call Out for Investigation into Violence Against Demonstrators!

Amnesty International calls on Iranian authorities to start an immediate
investigation into the security forces' violent handling of thousands of
demonstrators who took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the
announcement of the victory of incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in
Friday’s presidential elections.

3.* MYANMAR: *Free Aung San Suu Kyi!

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, has been
detained for 13 of the last 19 years, mostly under house arrest. On May 14,
2009, Aung San Suu Kyi and two of her assistants were taken from her home to
Insein Prison following an incident in which an American man allegedly swam
across a lake to her house and stayed there for two days. Reliable reports
beginning in early May confirm that while still confined in her Yangon home
Aung San Suu Kyi had been suffering from dehydration, low blood pressure and
weight loss. Her medical condition makes her transfer to Insein Prison at
this time doubly serious. Please call on Myanmar’s leaders to free Aung San
Suu Kyi and all other prisoners of conscience.
4. *PERU: *Demand Protection for Indigenous Demonstrators!
http://takeaction.amnestyusa.org/siteapps/advocacy/index.aspx?c=jhKPIXPCIoE&b=2590179&template=x.ascx&action=12438

Amnesty International is deeply concerned about the situation in the
Peruvian Amazon following the events in the town of Bagua, in the department
of Amazonas, on 5 June in which at least 30 demonstrators and 22 police
officers were killed and more than 150 demonstrators and 24 police injured.
Over 70 people were arrested, including several minors.
