and if you were neither an MIT student or associated with MIT in anyway after your Postdoc then you will lose access to your MIT email. In 2016 the PDA proposed that MIT Postdocs get lifetime access to some form of MIT email, similar to how MIT students who
graduate have an </span><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0); white-space:normal"><b>@alum.mit.edu</b></span><span style="font-weight:400; color:rgb(0,0,0); white-space:normal"> email. Progress has been made, including discussions with the Faculty Postdoctoral Advisory
Committee (FPAC) and the Office of the Vice President for Research. The advocacy committee created a petition that aims at exploring the urgency level of the issue to the current postdoctoral community. If you feel that this issue would warrant the PDA and
the concerned representatives at MIT to help Postdocs keep some form of MIT email even after we leave MIT then please sign the petition at </span><b style="white-space:normal"><a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc21HLBtgYPQDXskzXdUWWqJJo7T6YOcTfTkLF1FHpey6tFWQ/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1" target="_blank">this

of Sciences. Prior to his faculty appointment, he has an exploration postdoctoral journey at 3 institutions: National University of Singapore, University of Texas at Austin, and Columbia University at New York City. Prof Hao has extensive research experience
in synthesis, characterizations, and electronic device measurements of low-dimensional materials. He has published over 70 journal papers including prestigious journals such as <i>Science, Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Physical Review Letters</i>, <i>etc</i>.
To date, these publications have achieved more than 6700 citations and his <i>h</i>-index is 40.</font></div>

Much attention has been focused on genomic profiling of tumors to identify genomic alterations that might guide selection of specific therapies for individual patients. Beyond genomics, however, there is a variety of other precision approaches that can identify
and exploit cancer-specific biological mechanisms including proteomics, metabolomics, and computational modeling, resulting in the more effective use of existing cancer medicines. On Thursday, December 13, 2018, the MIT Center for Precision Cancer Medicine
will hold its inaugural annual symposium in the Samberg Conference Center at MIT. This full-day event will feature leading researchers and clinicians, who will highlight recent advances in precision cancer medicine and share perspectives on the future. An
industry panel will also discuss the barriers to moving precision medicine forward into current and future clinical trials.</font></span></p>

<font face="Arial" size="2" style="">Tony Conrad (American, 1940–2016) graduated from Harvard University in 1962 with a degree in Mathematics. While studying at Harvard, Conrad was exposed to the ideas of an influential American avant-garde composer and music
theorist, <a href="https://owa.exchange.mit.edu/owa/UrlBlockedError.aspx" style="" target="_blank"><span dir="ltr">John Cage</span></a>, which predetermined the future shift of Conrad’s career towards experimental music and film making. Tony Conrad once said
that he moved to New York in the early 1960s and entered into the art scene because of his interest in music, but went to film because music was "too boring." Interestingly, Conrad's musical and video ideas are often based on mathematical principles, providing
an example of work at the intersection of art and science. The MIT List Visual Art Center presents a retrospective of Tony Conrad's artworks throughout his six-decade career, which includes his rarely seen films and videos, 20-year long “Yellow movies,” and
later works such as “Underwear paintings”<font face="Tahoma" style="font-size:10pt">.</font></font></p>

<font face="Arial" size="2" style="">As authoritarian governments around the world develop sophisticated technologies for controlling information, many observers have predicted that these controls would be ineffective because they are easily thwarted and evaded
by savvy Internet users. In Censored, Margaret Roberts demonstrates that even censorship that is easy to circumvent can still be enormously effective. Taking advantage of digital data harvested from the Chinese Internet and leaks from China's Propaganda Department,
this book sheds light on how and when censorship influences the Chinese public. Roberts finds that much of censorship in China works not by making information impossible to access but by requiring those seeking information to spend extra time and money for
access. By inconveniencing users, censorship diverts the attention of citizens and powerfully shapes the spread of information. When Internet users notice blatant censorship, they are willing to compensate for better access. But subtler censorship, such as
burying search results or introducing distracting information on the web, is more effective because users are less aware of it. Roberts challenges the conventional wisdom that online censorship is undermined when it is incomplete and shows instead how censorship's
porous nature is used strategically to divide the public. Drawing parallels between censorship in China and the way information is manipulated in the United States and other democracies, Roberts reveals how Internet users are susceptible to control even in
the most open societies. Demonstrating how censorship travels across countries and technologies, Censored gives an unprecedented view of how governments encroach on the media consumption of citizens.</font></p>

Margaret Roberts is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego. Roberts research focuses on better measuring and understanding the political information strategies of authoritarian governments, with
a specific focus on studying censorship and propaganda in China. She has also developed widely used methods for automated content analysis in the social sciences. Roberts received her PhD in Government from Harvard University in 2014, an M.S. in Statistics
and B.A. in International Relations and Economics from Stanford in 2009. Her work has appeared in venues such as the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Political Analysis, Journal of the American Statistical Association
and Science.</font></p>

making friends, and exploring new cultures and techniques. We come together to share our culinary experiences and passion. This group is led by Katerina Vinichenko. Every Friday two members volunteer to prepare the main course and a dessert, while the rest
help with the preparation of the dishes and with the cleaning afterwards, or by playing with the kids (we are a kids friendly group).</font></p>
