<p class="MsoNormal">Science training rarely includes the skills needed to effectively manage an academic lab or nonacademic work group. Talented managers get more done in any work place, and not all science trainees have a good role model for this skill. Just
like doing research, effective management is something you can learn and at which you can excel. This talk is designed to give you an introduction to the skills you can develop to be a good manager. Useful resources and tools provided for future training.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>About Joanne Kamens, PhD, Executive Director, Addgene</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dr. Kamens has served as the Executive Director of Addgene since 2011. Addgene is a mission-driven, nonprofit dedicated to accelerating research by helping scientists around the world share reagents. She received her PhD in Genetics from
Harvard Medical School then spent 15 years at BASF/Abbott, ultimately serving as Group Leader in Molecular Biology. In 2007, she joined RXi Pharmaceuticals as Senior Director of Research Collaborations. Dr. Kamens founded the current Boston chapter of the
Association for Women in Science. Dr. Kamens was Director of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association Mentoring Program for 3 years. She was recognized as one of the 2013 PharmaVoice 100 Most Inspiring and one of the Forty Over 40 Women Making an Impact.
She serves on a number of other non-profit boards and speaks widely on career development topics in person and via Webinar.<o:p></o:p></p>
