<p class="MsoNormal">This interactive workshop will examine the functions of conflict among collaborators, supervisors and subordinates in an academic environment. Participants will examine how power differentials, effective communication, the preservation
of important relationships, and the individual interests of people in conflict are key to developing constructive and sustainable resolutions. Participants will observe and participate in role plays that demonstrate how these tools and techniques can be implemented
and to communicate more effectively in challenging situations.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>About the speaker, Judi Segall, MSW, CO-OP</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Judi Segall serves as Ombudsperson at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), providing conflict management services to all cohorts of the Institute community. Prior to joining MIT in 2014, Judi served as Director of the Ombudsman
Office at Stony Brook University from 1997-2014. In addition Judi was a faculty member in the Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare Masters in Social Work program for 16 years. Prior to her appointment as Stony Brook University Ombudsman Judi served
as executive assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs for nine years, specializing in strategic planning and organizational and program development.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ms. Segall served as President of the University and College Ombuds Association (UCOA) in 1999-2001, President of The Ombudsman Association (TOA) in 2005-2006, and was the inaugural President of the International Ombudsman Association (IOA)
in 2006-2007. Currently Judi is a faculty member on the teaching team for IOA’s training and professional development program.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Ms. Segall is a Certified Organizational Ombudsman (CO-OP), holds a Masters in Social Work from Stony Brook University and certification in mediation from the Center for Mediation in Law. Underlying her work as an Ombudsman, teacher and
trainer, Judi is committed to advancing constructive conflict management skills and positive change within all realms of our society.<o:p></o:p></p>
