Enriching Your Mentoring Relationships

We all hear the buzzword "mentoring" in relation to
career success, but most of us don't know how to look for
a strong mentor or how to use one effectively once we have
found one. How can you maximize your mentoring
relationship with your supervisor? How can you go about
finding and benefiting from additional mentors? This
presentation offers practical advice on building and
maximizing mentoring relationships, and is relevant for
those on both sides of a mentoring relationship.

Joanne Kamens is the Executive Director
of Addgene, a mission driven, nonprofit dedicated to
helping scientists around the world collaborate by sharing
plasmids. Her presentations are relevant to a wide variety
of disciplines and career paths. Dr. Kamens received her
PhD in Genetics from Harvard Medical School and then spent
15 years at BASF/Abbott, ultimately serving as Group
Leader in Molecular Biology. In 2007, she joined RXi
Pharmaceuticals as Senior Director of Research
Collaborations. Dr. Kamens founded the current Boston
chapter of AWIS, the Association for Women in Science. She
was Director of the HBA Boston Mentoring Program for 3
years, serves on a number of non-profit boards, and speaks
widely on career development topics. In 2013, Dr. Kamens
was elected as a fellow to the Massachusetts Academy of
Science for her service to the science community and the
public.
