Dear MIT Postdocs,

In addition to the update below regarding the Writing and
Communication Center, please note that a handout and link from the
recent session Writing Resources and Advice for Postdocs are posted
under that listing on http://web.mit.edu/mitpostdocs/seminars.html
Also, a link to The Mayfield Handbook of Technical and Scientific
Writing along with other resources may be found on the Writing and
Communication Center's website:
In addition, the Foreign
Languages & Literature Resource Center (FLLRC)
(located in 16-668) is closed for the summer, but will reopen this
fall. It supports English as a second language and foreign language
learning at MIT. Materials that can be used at the Center by all
members of the MIT community include audio, video, and
computer-based materials (see website for hours).

MIT Language Conversation
Exchange is a way to meet someone new from a
different part of campus, speak a language you're learning or wish
to improve (including English) with a native speaker, and share your
culture and interests while learning about someone else's.
The Writing and Communication Center (12-132) offers free
individual consultation about any writing difficulty, from
questions about grammar to matters of style, including
difficulties common to writers, such as overcoming writer’s
block, organizing papers, revising one’s work, or presenting
scientific and technical information. The Center’s
professional lecturers help with theses, articles and books
for publication, conference presentations, teaching and
research statements, CVs, applications, course papers, slides,
and oral presentation skills (how to write a speech, how to
use visual aids, how to conduct oneself when presenting
scientific or nonscientific information). Clients may visit
the Center during any stage of the writing process:
prewriting, writing a first draft, revising, or editing. The
Center is a teaching institution; it is not a proofreading
service. The Center aims to teach writing as a process, to
clarify and promote techniques of good writing. The Center
provides specialized help to those for whom English is a
second language. All appointments are made online. Go to the
Center’s website <a
