As part of its mission to improve the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders, Austin Speaks provides funding along the entire research continuum — from discovery to development to dissemination — for innovative projects that hold considerable promise for significantly improving the lives of persons with autism.

In an effort to remove barriers and encourage multidisciplinary collaboration among basic scientists, applied researchers, and clinicians, Autism Speaks has announced a Postdoctoral Fellowships Request for Applications focused specifically on Translational Autism Research. The program is designed to support promising, well-qualified postdoctoral scientists in their pursuit of research training that involves translation of biological discoveries toward new and more effective methods or strategies for treating or diagnosing autism spectrum disorders

The fellowship will support postdoctoral training in research that seeks to move biological science "from bench to bedside," or from experiments conducted in the laboratory into preclinical or clinical trials to real-world settings, including hospitals, clinics, and other community settings, with the goal of improving outcomes for individuals with ASD.

Each award will be for a period of two years and will include a competitive stipend as well as a $10,000 annual allowance for professional conference travel, research costs and supplies, and/or fringe benefits. Stipends will range from $38,000 to $50,000 each, based on the fellow's experience. INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

To be eligible, a candidate must hold an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent terminal degree and cannot have more than five years of postdoctoral experience at the commencement of the award. International applications are encouraged.
