MIT</title></head><body>
<div>This is available to postdocs, but note that it is NOT a job
interview, just a chance to ask questions (see below). As of
11:45 AM on Monday, Hannah Bernstein tells me that there are still
some open slots. Best, Janet</div>

<div>INVITATION TO BOSTON CONSULTING GROUP'S EVENTS (FROM AN MIT PhD
ALUMNUS)</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>On behalf of the Boston Consulting Group, I wanted to take the
opportunity to introduce myself to those of you I do not already
know. My name is Mel Wolfgang, and I am a Manager with BCG in
our Boston office. I have been with BCG since 1999, and I came
to the Boston office after completing a PhD in computational
hydrodynamics from the Department of Ocean Engineering at MIT.
Seven years ago, I was in a similar position to where many of you are
likely to be right now. I had was finishing my dissertation,
excited about the prospect of completing a long journey, and I was
contemplating several career options. These ranged from staying
in academia, starting a business, or entering the world of management
consulting to "get my feet wet" and learn as much as
possible about the business world. Six years later, I am still at BCG,
having spent time working out of Boston, Kuala Lumpur, and London.
I am constantly challenged by my work, love the job, and very much
enjoy the people whom I am proud to call colleagues - so it's no
surprise that I am energized by the prospect of bringing more
qualified PhDs, MDs and other "non-traditional" hires into
what I truly believe is a wonderful firm and into an incredibly
rewarding role in consulting. Last year, BCG saw an increase of
almost 20% in qualified applicants from MIT PhD programs over the
prior year, and we're hoping that trend will continue! I am sure some
of you are considering consulting quite seriously and want to know BCG
better. I am equally sure that there are others of you who are
trying to understand what the job is all about and what it is you want
to do - in both the short term and ultimately in the long term.
For that reason, you can look forward to a number of opportunities to
get your questions answered</div>

<blockquote>
<ul type="square">
<li>First, I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can on
Thursday evening, September 29th at<b> 6pm at The Charles Hotel
(Conant Wadsworth Room), One Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA.</b> We'll
have a short presentation and Q&A, followed by the opportunity to
informally speak to a number of BCGers, many with backgrounds similar
to yours, from all around the North American system.
<li>In addition, a number of us are going to be holding informal
office hours on campus next Friday, September 30th from 3:30pm to 6pm,
to answer whatever questions you may have - about BCG, about our
personal experiences, the consulting profession, the transition from
academia into consulting, the transition from consulting into other
careers.

</blockquote>
<div><br></div>
<div>Take the time to browse through our website, <a
href="file:///\\www.bcg.com">www.bcg.com</a>, as I am sure it will
begin to answer many, if not all, of the questions you might.
However, if you have additional questions, you will be able to speak
to many of us on Thursday evening at the information session. Finally,
if some of you have already narrowed down your career search
considerably and are already very focused on pursuing a career with
BCG - and if you are interested in stopping by for 15 minutes to talk
one-on-one, at a time when we will be on campus next Friday - please
click on the link below to set up a time.<font color="#0000FF"> [THESE
