Hey Grace,<br><br>This sounds great! I'm cc-ing Ritu Tandon on this email as she's GPI's Director of Education and in charge of the whole Poverty Action Week. While I'll be your main contact, I just want to keep her updated as well.<br>
<br>A build day definitely sounds like something that would work well with PAW. In terms of funding, would you suggest putting this build day into the LEF funding application, or does Habitat have build days built into their funding for the year/semester?<br>
<br>Thanks!<br>Elli<br><br><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 9:58 AM, Grace Lee <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:gracelee@mit.edu">gracelee@mit.edu</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
<div>Hi Elli,</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Thanks for inviting Habitat to participate in Poverty Action Week! We should be able to plan a build day in Bedford, MA, on Sat, Oct 17 for PAW.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Here's a link to info about our build days: <a href="http://web.mit.edu/habitat/www/build_days.html" target="_blank">http://web.mit.edu/habitat/www/build_days.html</a><br> </div>
<div>Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell is finishing up a house at that site and starting two more, so there should be plenty of interesting work going on. We typically send 14 students to each build day, which costs about $220 - van rentals, gas, breakfast.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Let me know what you think!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Cheers,</div>

<div>The Global Poverty Initiative (GPI) invites you to collaborate in planning the 3rd annual Poverty Action Week. Since the <span style="line-height: 19px; font-family: -webkit-sans-serif;">International Day for the Eradication of Poverty</span><span style="font-weight: bold; line-height: 19px; font-family: -webkit-sans-serif;"> </span><span style="line-height: 19px; font-family: -webkit-sans-serif;">i</span><span style="line-height: 19px; font-family: -webkit-sans-serif;">s October 17th</span><span style="font-weight: bold; line-height: 19px; font-family: -webkit-sans-serif;">, <span style="font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; font-family: arial;">PAW is tentatively set for the week of October 13-17th. In the past, it has been a huge event for GPI and on campus, and we hope to make it even better this year.The overarching goal/theme of PAW is to highlight how students can fight poverty, and we have in mind a variety of events and exhibits planned around this theme. </span></span></div>
<div><br> </div>
<div>We invite you to submit ideas for PAW events that you would like to help organize and/or see happen. The more creative and interactive the events, the better. Share a development story, show how students can get involved, or actually do some service. Some events/displays GPI is already planning include: poverty action-themed dorm study breaks throughout the week, a giant inflatable globe with flags/posts of organizations that are fighting poverty, and a fair trade bazaar on Kresge Oval.<br>
</div>
<div><br> </div>
<div><b>Benefits of collaboration</b></div>
<div>- The more student groups that participate in the execution of PAW, the more of a presence we willl have. We willl also be more likely to have greater attendance at each event since we will be drawing from all of our member bases and we will be able to schedule events so they don't conflict with each other. </div>
<div>
<div>- In a time with budget cuts, advertising for a single joint event can save all participating student groups money.</div>
<div>- Synergy. More ideas = more awesome.</div></div>
<div>- We'd only need to submit one LEF application which would mean less work<br> </div>
<div><br> </div></div></div></div></div>
</div><div>If you are interested in being a part of Poverty Action Week this fall, please email <a href="mailto:gpi-board@mit.edu" target="_blank">gpi-awesome@mit.edu</a> so we can start the brainstorming process! </div>
