It was not possible to make progress any other way than to boot in safe mode. When I tried to run main menu it asked me if I wanted to check for updates and I said no. Since then I have not been able to open a window in main menu to do anything. Yet, if I try to put it in the trash it says that it cannot be put in the trash because it is open. It appears in the activity monitor but it is not doing anything, see below. I took the opportunity to reset Safari and repair permissions. So far, things are working well though I would love to give the machine a deep cleaning :). </div><div><br></div><div>Thanks so much for all of the suggestions.
