3. What's New:
---------------------------
IS&T, in partnership with web service providers from across the Institute,
announced the addition of Firefox version 1.5.x to the list of recommended
browsers.

IS&T is working with Intel Macintosh customers to create an interim
scheduled backup solution using TSM 5.2.3. If interested, please contact
tsm-release at mit.edu.

IS&T has revised the VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i with patch 11 installer to
address installation issues some Dell systems have encountered. The
following machines are known to encounter this issue:
* Dell D620 laptop
* Dell Latitude D820
* Dell Precision M65
* Dell Precision M90

Dell Systems that have Wave Embassy Trust Suite, which includes Document
Manager installed, are known to cause issues during installation. The
installer has been revised to include a check point which notifies the user
their machine has the suite running. If detected, the user will need
to uninstall prior to installing VirusScan.

To obtain VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i with patch 11, visit the Software
download page:

4. Volume & Site License Software Update
--------------------------------------------------------------
FileMaker Pro 8.5 and FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced are now available from
VSLS. We also have the v4 releases of FileMaker Pro 8, Pro 8 Advanced,
Server 8 and Server 8 Advanced available which include Universal Binaries to
work on Intel-based Macs. FileMaker Pro 8.5 is also available to students
for educational projects. To order FileMaker, fill out the appropriate order
form in the General Desktop Software section of the VSLS site.

Also new this month, IS&T is providing Maplesoft, Inc.'s Maple version 10
analytical software to MIT faculty, staff and students through a self
service download. You can find more information including how to obtain
Maple 10 in the Specialized Academic, Engineering and Research Software
section of the VSLS site:

5. Windows Automatic Update Service (WAUS)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
We recommend users configure their Windows machines to use MIT's Windows
Automatic Update Service (WAUS) for critical patches and service pack
deployment.

WSUS is here. MIT WAUS deploys updates for Microsoft Office products. Check
the Approved Updates page for details regarding deployed packages. WSUS also
adds support for 64-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems. For more
information about and instructions on how to configure your machines to use
WAUS, see the WAUS documentation:
